Published on October 22, 2013Canada's most diversified economy, Ontario's fastest growing economy, ranked the best place to invest in Canada and Ontario for two years running- this is Hamilton- the Ambitious City.
If Hamilton is supposedly into creativity and 'the arts' then why do people celebrate non-stop 'industry' - mundane manufacturing of things, mass production and dull soul destroying service? Yes, those are jobs - for survival, but what kind of culture is that? And for all this talk, how many great artists has Canada, never mind Hamilton created? A handful, even though personally I have zero interest in Cohen, Mitchell, Rush etc. or the unmentionable pop acts. It seems the 'arts' is about celebrating some art supply store, a gallery or someone who plays classical music in her spare time. It seems people love to have order and the appearance of having it all. But it's all so uninspiring as is this tough guy who uses a lame sports/street like delivery to tell people that working for some bland company with too much money for bait and switch 'hope' ads like this, is a wonderful thing.
This is a great video.
I grew up in Toronto, total years I lived there was about 27 years. Yes, its true. Torotonians bash Hamilton - as I used to too. But I never really knew Hamilton until I moved here (Stoney Creek) in 2011. Hamilton is a great place to live and it is bigger than you might think. It's just over 1100 square kilometers. It's also a halfway point from Toronto to Niagara Falls. You just need to see past the rough infrastructure. One of the biggest things I have noticed since 2011 is the abundant amount of real estate. And I'm not only talking about "cookie cutter" homes that are going up everywhere, I'm talking about higher end condos & lofts. And they are not cheap! I've also noticed expansions to malls (like East Gate) and brand new grocery stores, new bigger and better LCBO's, Walmart Super Centers, new swimming facilities, new stadium, new roads, the list goes on and on. Even my area is not looking the same as 2011. The homes are getting bigger and bigger...its starting to look like the burbs of Toronto. Even the people here are friendly. I'm proud to say I live in Hamilton. I kind of went off topic there are a bit i know ;-)
Hamilton is such a shit hole. What gives me credibility to say this? I lived in this shit hole. There is a reason why anything new is built outside or around the city instead of in the city. This city is in a shitty equilibrium where no one wants to put more money in and no one leaving there wants to move away.
Fantastic video, well done. This shows just a fraction of the potential of this great city. I love Hamilton because it's not trying to be someplace else or comparing itself to somewhere else. It's just becoming a better version of itself.
As somebody who grew up in Niagara, right next to Hamilton, and who worked at Dofasco, and who is now an Economic Developer..... I have to say, this video is amazing. It's emotional, beautiful, proud. I effing love it. I want to move back home and work for the city just because of this.
I lived in Toronto for 3 years and decided to move to Hamilton to attend Mohawk Collage for Radio Broadcasting. I love it here. Hamilton gets a bad rep by people from Toronto. Hamilton is the water-fall capital of the world. Albion Falls and Devil's Punch Bowl are a sight to see.
I love Hamilton.
hamilton smells and is dirty like no other city. full of homeless people waiting to take your money. trying to go both ways on one street is almost impossible. i feels sorry for those who live in this city because its hard to see the light shining down in this dark city. yet 20mins from this dark city is one of the most beautiful cities in all of Canada and that city is Burlington. yes ranked 3rd in all of Canada.
love everything about hamilton from london and its all such a rich character everything it has to work with taking day trips there for 2 years I've taken a lot in mostly for waterfall pictures but I've sensed what it's about and it's on a one of a kind trajectory more than any one person can say as words fall short but for brevity
WOW...born and bred proud Hamiltonian now living in Hong Kong....this gave me goosebumps and brought tears to my eyes!!! Way to go Hamilton - now everyone can see what an amazing city we have.
Huge thank you to the talented crew that made this possible:

Very powerful recitation of all those firsts and an incredible sense of pride just resonating through this whole video, it made me feel proud of being a resident for sure.
ugh, really? I guess Hamilton is moving away from celebrating artistic/digital innovation now that they have a video that could've been shot for a hydro company or in a highschool locker room during the coach's pre-game pep talk. The slogan should become "Destination Hamilton - you'll like it! -or else! do you comply?" ...wow
